Evac VacuConvert offers architects a wider choice

Vacuum toilet systems have many advantages in terms of flexibility of installation and low water usage, but from the architect’s perspective one drawback has always been the limited choice of toilet shapes and colours.

Now Evac have overcome this problem with the Evac VacuConvert, a gravity toilet adapter which enables most standard wall-mounted gravity toilet bowls to be connected to an Evac vacuum collection system. But Evac VacuConvert is not only an adapter, it conserves most of the benefits of a vacuum toilet such as a low water consumption, hygienic air removal around the bowl, small pipe size (DN40) and flexible pipework layout.

Enormous potential for future sales

“Many architects are keen to use vacuum collection systems, but have been held back because of the lack of choice in toilet bowls and colours”, said Stephane Lucas, Directeur General of Evac France, whose has been closely involved in the development of Evac VacuConvert.

He explained that there was enormous potential for the sale of the adapters, particularly for hotel and resort developments where water usage is a major consideration, but also in remodelling older buildings where the flexibility of small bore vacuum piping can get around obstacles and help to preserve the original features of the building.

Lower water usage is a major feature

“The biggest challenge was getting a cistern to work with a vacuum flushing process, as a vacuum toilet does not have any reservoir. However, we were able to get water usage down to between 2 and 2.5 liters per flush which is quite an achievement”, Mr Lucas added.

This compares with 4-9 liters per flush for a normal gravity toilet saving thousands of liters of water during the period of a year with considerable environmental benefits.

“In addition to its water saving features, Evac VacuConvert enables architects to cherry-pick from the overall ranges of toilet manufacturers and it’s this versatility which will make it attractive for prestigious building projects”, Mr Lucas concluded.
